Candace Cameron Bure is best known for her role as D.J. Tanner on the beloved sitcom, which aired from 1987 to 1995
Candace Cameron Bure has been candid about her Full House experience, but a recent confession about the pressures of adolescence on set has revealed a new layer of vulnerability.
Candace Cameron Bure recently opened up about the toughest part of her Full House years during an appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast.
For Cameron Bure, 48, the emotional moments came during her puberty years, around ages 15 or 16, particularly in episodes that addressed her weight.
“You know, I was always the chubby-cheeked girl, and many people loved that about me,” she explained. “Looking back, I see that I was just a normal, average girl.”
The actress continued, “Yet, when you meet people, they often say, ‘You’re so much thinner in person!’… And you can’t help but wonder, ‘Is that all people notice? Do they only see my chubby cheeks?'”
As Cameron Bure noted, many people feel insecure during their teenage years, regardless of whether they’re on TV.
“But it gets magnified when you are,” she added. “So those years were particularly awkward for me.”
To wrap up the teaser clip, Cameron Bure concluded, “I just want to go back and hug 15-year-old Candace, saying, ‘It’s okay. Don’t listen to anyone.'”
In the comments, Instagram users responded to the actress’ confession with supportive messages and encouragement.
One fan commented, “Aren’t you glad there wasn’t social media back then? I can’t imagine how today’s child stars handle it. Hopefully, they have amazing people around them to support them. I always thought it was great that your family was on set with you, and you worked with good people too.”
Another user wrote, “Always grew up thinking you were the most beautiful and aspired to be like you ❤️,” while someone else added, “Ugh, love this woman 💗.”
Yet another fan shared, “I’ve always had a round face and what people thought were chubby cheeks, so I absolutely loved seeing you on TV, a girl my age with cheeks. I thought you were so pretty. Still do.”
Today, Cameron Bure serves as the Chief Creative Officer for Great American Media and stars in many of its TV movies. She was previously a key figure at Hallmark for 13 years.
Additionally, the actress returned as D.J. Tanner for five seasons in the spinoff series “Fuller House.” Cameron Bure has five children with her husband, Valeri Bure: Natasha, 25, Lev, 24, and Maksim, 22.
